With spring break quickly approaching, the Muskingum University softball team is in full preparation for their upcoming season.
The team has begun their six weeks of winter ball practices in anticipation for spring training in Kissimmee, Florida. They will be heading south at the same time Muskingum University goes on spring break. The tournament consists of 12 varsity level games and two junior varsity games.
The Muskies know they will see some tough competition during the tournament.
?We have a couple top 25 teams in the country that we?re going to be playing,? said Head Softball Coach Kari Hoying.
This includes Roanoke College, which is currently ranked sixth in the nation, and Trine University, which is ranked 23rd in the nation.
Hoying has confidence in her returning players. She believes each class has something to offer from the seniors down to first years. She also has high expectations for her team this year as a whole.
?To win the conference is our ultimate goal and get back to NCAA post-season play,? said Hoying. ?We haven?t been there since 2008 and that?s too long.?
In order to reach this goal, the team practices six days a week for two hours each. Practices consist of conditioning and breaking down into defensive and offensive stations.
?We have a lot of high expectations in practice,? said Hoying.? ?We don?t settle for a mediocre practice.?
