Military parade will cause changes in New Orleans traffic patterns ...

The Louisiana Bicentennial Military Parade on Saturday afternoon will cause changes in traffic patterns on some New Orleans streets. The parade will move through the French Quarter, Central Business District and Warehouse District.

Beginning Saturday at 3 p.m. at the corner of Elysian Fields Avenue and North Peters Street, the parade will roll on Esplanade Avenue to Decatur Street, then follow Decatur, North Peters and Tchoupitoulas streets to Julia Street in the Warehouse District.

It then will turn right on Julia to St. Charles Avenue, where it will turn left, go around Lee Circle and move down Andrew Higgins Drive until concluding at Convention Center Boulevard.

Elysian Fields Avenue will be closed from St. Claude Avenue to the Mississippi River from noon to 4 p.m. for the formation of the parade. Police officers will be posted at the intersections. No-parking signs will be posted along Decatur Street.

Parking enforcement workers will be on the lookout during the parade for examples of illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop sign, the city said. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets, and with the right wheels next to the curb on two-way streets.
