Photo project puts pixelated people into Polaroids

Retro video game graphics and vintage snapshots go together surprisingly well

While the world of?digital photography might be moving towards higher resolutions, one artist is pursuing the ultimate in retro snapshots. For the series?Pixels and Polaroids, mixed media artist Jherin Miller has superimposed "8-bit" retro video game style humans onto realistic backgrounds in Polaroid photos.

Miller devised the technique when working on a video project entitled?Where the Sun Sleeps, a trailer for a fictitious?iPad video game, and wondered how these blocky characters from the game would look in the real world. As you can see in the?resulting photos, the answer is "pretty incredible."

Perhaps more impressive than the photos is the fact that Miller is a high school student and has a portfolio of work that most professional designers would be proud of. We're especially fond of Miller's?paper toys and?pixel-art buttons.
