Modern Transport Boats Designed - Boat Plans and Designs

Many children (and adults) become excited in a commercial shipyard because of the variety of boat plans, designs and styles that appear on a daily basis. Unlike smaller leisure boats, these ships are often massive, and are thus impressive in design. Many young boys have seen these vessels and developed a lifelong love of all water faring things. This is, in fact, where a great many decide to take up the hobby of boat building.

There are a large number of variations of cargo ships, distinguished in a variety of different ways. For the most part, however, these ships are generally referred to by their cargo capabilities. Most commonly known are bulk carriers. These are used to carry extremely large amounts of cargo, ranging from food to metals. Large square or rectangular hatches are present on the deck, which makes loading and unloading cargo more convenient.

Cargo ships are probably the easiest recognized ship, as they carry containers the size of a semi-truck trailer. These containers are easily loaded and unloaded, as they?re placed directly onto a truck for transport. These containers are easily recognized, and are a common sight during road travel.

Ferries are a method of transporting passengers from one location to another. They?re generally used in areas where large bodies of water make road transport inconvenient or difficult. Some ferries also transport vehicles along with their passengers. Although some ferries do transport freight, they?re more commonly known as a convenient mode of transportation or commute. Large cities such as New York and Seattle are commonly known for their ferrying services.

Cruise ships and ocean liners are the most common form of passenger transportation via water. These large ships are capable of transporting thousands of passengers at once, either for leisure or travel. They?re easily recognizable by the passenger compartments, and often have a variety of entertainments available for passengers. Unlike cruise ships, ocean liners can carry cargo not intended for use by its passengers.

Another boat commonly seen in shipyards is a tugboat. Popularized by a 1970?s cartoon, the role of a tugboat is commonly known. It?s designed to push, pull, or ?tug? large or disabled ships that are not capable of navigating a specific waterway for a variety of reasons.

A barge is similar in capability to cargo ship, the difference being that barges are primarily used in rivers or inland lakes. Barges are a common sight along the Mississippi river, and often carry freight that originated on a cargo or bulk carrier to its final destination, or to the next point of pick-up.

These are just a few of the many types of ships that fascinate and engage the minds of young and old boat lovers alike. With the incredible capabilities of these ships, it?s no wonder that they inspire boat building in such a large number of people. Though they?re not similar at all to the wooden boat designs that dominate the world of boat building, they share a commonality that will continue to prove inspirational to many people throughout the world.
